PLAYA – PEOPLE: CHAD MAENDER

President of LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce

Why did you choose to conduct your business affairs in the Silicon Beach area? How did you get there?
–Silicon Beach continues to be a major economic engine in our LAX Coastal region and has become a major work, shop, play community that continues to attract great businesses and organizations. Whether it be Playa Vista Elementary School or your major corporation like Meta or Google, it is a place for everyone to call “home.”

What would you have to say has been the forefront of your success in your career? How did you develop your process in your work?
–My entire career has been about serving the community and working to try and just make it a little better. Building a successful community on all levels has always been about relationships and building a coalition of people that are passionate about helping the climate for business, improving on quality of life issues like our schools, and continuing to work to address unmet needs.

In what ways have you seen the area change since you’ve been here?
–I remember when you could drive down Jefferson Blvd. and there were no developments from the 405 all the way to Lincoln Blvd. and then the vision from Playa Vista emerged and the first phase completed in 2008. Playa Vista completely changed the landscape of our region and brought so much new economic activity between Westchester and Marina del Rey.

Where are your favorite places in Silicon Beach that aren’t well known?
–If you have never been to Sol Mexican Cocina, I would highly recommend a meal there. It’s always top notch. I love taking a stroll through Central Park at Playa Vista and if you are an animal lover, you have to spend some time at Annenberg PetSpace. I can’t ever get my two kids out of there!

PLAYA – BULLETIN BOARD:

1. ** The owner of Ronnie’s Diner must really be cheap. They charge extra for everything! A light extra mayo on your turkey sandwich. Sure. For 50 cents that they don’t bother to mention, simply slip it right on the bottom of the check. Sneaky huh. Never been to the bathroom but wonder if they charge extra for toilet paper. —- Lesli Z., Culver City

2. ** Can I interest you in an over-priced, mediocre burger? Head on over to Burger Lounge in Marina del Rey. —- Olivia W., Marina del Rey

3. ** The radical Left is intentionally destroying our country. They want high gas prices. They want open borders. They want runaway inflation to destroy hard-working families. They want to break America and Western civilization – so they can “reset” it. —- Thomas Z., Playa Del Rey

4. ** When I was a student at Loyola several years ago, I would see this scene play over and over again. Although the teacher ordered them to sit down, the obstreperous boys continued their antics. Nothing would happen to them —- Melanie Z., Culver City

5. ** I love Benny’s Tacos! —- Lindsay, V., Playa del Rey

6. ** The name Hunter Biden has become synonymous with nepotism and graft. —- Blanca L., Playa Vista

7. ** Playa Vista is a paradigm of an endless group of high-tech firms that have recently sprung up in this area. —- Clancy R., Playa Vista

8. ** My ex-wife was so lugubrious that he could find melancholy in a child’s birthday party. —- Roland K., Playa Vista

9. ** Murders, gang shootings, organized theft, and crime rates have skyrocketed. Gascón’s policies have created a system that places the needs of convicted criminals over those of victims. Help us Recall George Gascón. NOW! —- Ashley P., Marina del Rey

10. ** The P.R. revolution is underway. www.PRPrime.net

11. ** Prominent P.R. firm seeks Entry-level Researcher/Special Projects Coordinator in South Bay (Manhattan Beach). Part-time, freelance, flexible hours. Extremely reliable.
